Cliche of the day.
heedthis: Actions speak louder than words.  But that implies words at least spoken, and, comparatively, actions win. Without both words AND action, neither of them speak at all.

– Newt Gingrich, speaking at Cornerstone Church. I had some thoughts on the speech here, but should have been clearer on one point: Newt, you have to pick one! It’s either radical Islam and Sharia law or a Bacchanalia of godlessness. It cannot be both. (via ilyagerner) Beware! Secular-radical...

A good conversation
michelleteeha: I love people who can keep an on-going conversation. The ones who try their hardest to switch topics when replies get short, the ones that make you feel important, the ones you’re comfortable speaking to, and the ones who will take time to solve your problems without judging you. You know, the people who always seem excited when talking to you?

oldskoolliveson: I saw my soul just now, and it was a tarnished gold. Not the rusted gold bar that you’re probably thinking of right now, but rather the first drops of sunlight caressing the mountains and valleys, signaling the beginning of dawn. A sort of beautiful, hopeful, yellow-orange gold. If I stopped these… No person is “untarnished gold”

Sadness
What useful purpose does it serve in the human mind? You might rationalize the utility of happiness or jealousy or the others, but, how do you explain sadness? Is it merely to serve as a contrast to its happier opposite? Is it a moral compass, revealing that certain things cause universal sadness? Shouldn’t guilt alone be enough?  Someone in AP Psych, enlighten us.

I am that genius, Boston
